TUSCALOOSA
| Dr. Edward Dowling Hillard, 61, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, in
Andalusia, Alabama. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be
held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007, at Christ Episcopal Church. The
Rev. David Meginniss and the Rev. Dr. Margaret Scalise will officiate.
Thomas Wilson Moore Jr. will serve as crucifer, and Duncan Hillard Moore
and Harrison Jones Campbell will serve as acolytes.
Dr. Hillard was preceded in death by his father, Groves Caldwell Hillard
and his grandparents, Kathleen Pugh Dowling, Dr. Herbert Bascom Dowling,
Mary Opry Hillard, and Edward Rudolph Hillard.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Anne Roberts Hillard; his daughter,
Holland Macon Hillard Warr and her husband Michael; son, Edward Dowling
Hillard, Jr.; granddaughters, Holland Macon Warr and Hillard Harbin Warr;
mother, Margaret Dowling Hillard; sisters, Stella Hillard Moore and her
husband Thomas, Mary Hillard Schultz and her husband Lawrence; and many
beloved nieces and nephews.
Dr. Hillard was a beloved orthopaedic surgeon, having graduated from UMS
in Mobile in 1964, The University of Alabama in 1968, and The University
of Alabama School of Medicine in 1974. He was a founding partner in
Tuscaloosa Surgical Center and was a Hand Surgery Fellow at Harvard
Medical School and at The University of Alabama School of Medicine,
serving in Tuscaloosa as Clinical Assistant Professor in Orthopedic
Surgery. Dr. Hillard’s numerous civic board memberships included the
DCH Foundation Board, University of Alabama President’s Cabinet, and
Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of contributions
