Jon
Robert Cart, a 1986 graduate of DePauw University, has been
appointed associate dean of the College of Fine and Performing
Arts at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. Dr. Cart has
also issued a new compact disc, Serenata Mexicana, on the
Centaur label.
A
tenor praised for his "thrilling squillo" and
"exciting abandon in the Mario del Monaco mold," Bob
Cart has sung with the Baltimore Opera, the Harrisburg Opera,
Opera Roanoke, Wolf Trap Opera, the Amalfi Coast Festival and the
Shaker Mountain Music Festival. With a repertoire ranging from the
Baroque opera to the music of Richard Wagner, his primary roles
include Siegmund (Die Walküre), Radames (Aïda),
Cavaradossi (Tosca), Don José (Carmen), Riccardo
(Un Ballo in Maschera), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) and
Turiddu (Cavalleria Rusticana).
On
the concert stage, Cart has performed as soloist at Carnegie Hall,
Alice Tully Hall, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Mexican
Cultural Institute and the White House. He has appeared in concert
with such orchestras as the Indianapolis Symphony, the Baltimore
Symphony, the Albany Symphony, and the Washington
Metropolitan
Philharmonic, working with eminent conductors including Leonard
Bernstein and Raymond Leppard.
A
music major at DePauw, Cart previously chaired the department of
music and theatre arts at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania
(2000-2006).
