William Bain
Kappa Deke had 40-year career at
Indiana University
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - William Barton Bain, 91, passed
away Monday, March 7, 2005, at Bell Trace Health & Living Center,
Bloomington, Ind.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in
Loudonville, Ohio.
Arrangements are being handled by Allen Funeral Home, 3000 E. Third St.,
Bloomington, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
He was born March 8, 1913, in Marion to Mr. and Mrs. William G. Bain and
married Martha Eloise Weimer on Aug. 17, 1955, in Loudonville. After a
honeymoon trip to Florida, they made their home in Bloomington, Ind.
After their retirements, they spent their winters in Florida for several
years. Martha passed away Nov. 29, 2004.
Bill was a graduate of Millersburg High School and received his
bachelor’s degree from Miami University in Oxford and his master’s
degree from the University of Illinois. He attended Princeton University
to work on his doctorate degree.
In 1941, he was employed by Indiana University, where he taught English
and then eventually became assistant to the Dean of the University
Division. He received the President’s Award from Indiana Association
for College Admission Counseling in 1978. He retired from Indiana
University after 40 years of service.
Bill enjoyed Indiana University sports and looked forward to watching
those games, even while living at Bell Trace. He was an avid reader and
continued to read at least three newspapers and several magazines.
Bill was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, and had held
memberships in Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Kappa Epsilon, Smithsonian
National Associate, Princeton Alumni and Miami University Alumni.
Surviving are two nephews and a cousin.
