Samuel
Harlan Calhoun, the son of Anne Elizabeth Calhoun and the late Major
General William Roberts Calhoun, passed away Friday, April 27, 2007.
He was a resident of Lookout Mountain, Ga., and Destin, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Duncan Weigel Calhoun; one son,
William Roberts Calhoun III, of Mobile, Ala.; his mother, Anne H.
Calhoun, of Florence, Ala.; two brothers, Tyler Calhoun III, of Florence,
Ala. and William Roberts Calhoun Jr., of Columbia, S.C.
Sam attended Vanderbilt University where he
was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon. He served in the
United States Army in Korea. He graduated from the University of Texas,
earning a B.S. in civil engineering and an M.S. in environmental health
engineering. He was employed by the Tennessee Valley Authority as an
environmental engineer and later in management. Same retired from TVA in
1994.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 296, serving on the
executive committee for many years; Elks BPOE Lodge No. 1795; Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 11367; Destin History and Fishing Museum; Destin
Fishing Rodeo, serving as judge for many years; The Fairyland Club; and
the Austin Assembly.
Sam was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal, where a
service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2007, at 3 p.m. Family
visitation will precede the service at 2 p.m.
The family requests any remembrances be made to a charity of one's
choice.
