CHAPEL
HILL -- Police charged Franklin
St. Claire Clark IV, 20, of 132 S.
Columbia St., Chapel Hill, with
violation of a city ordinance
after he allegedly took a cab from
Raleigh to Chapel Hill and then
ran away while the driver waited
for his payment.
The
taxi driver told police he picked
up Clark, a UNC student, in
Raleigh, and that Clark told him
that when they arrived in Chapel
Hill, he would go to an ATM and
get the money to pay the driver.
The driver took Clark to
University Square, and waited at
around 4 a.m. Wednesday as Clark
got out of the cab to go to the
ATM, said Jane Cousins of the
Chapel Hill Police Department.
Instead,
Clark took off running, the cab
driver told police, still owing
the driver $73.20 for cab fare.
Clark,
however, left a little clue as to
his identity in the back seat of
the taxi: his country club
membership card, Cousins said.
Using
the information from the card,
police tracked Clark to the Delta
Kappa Epsilon fraternity house at
132 S. Columbia St., where they
took him into custody. The cab
driver was able to identify the
6'7" Clark as the one who ran
away, and police charged him with
violation of a city ordinance.
Clark
then paid the taxi driver the
money he owed him, Cousins said.
A
magistrate set his bond at $200,
and he was transported to Orange
County Jail, a police report said.
