PSI
PHI AND DELTA PI ALUMNI
TO FORM THREE-CHAPTER CONSORTIUM
WITH ACTIVES AT
INDIANA UNIVERSITY
Deke
International granted a charter to the Delta Psi chapter at Indiana
University in October, 2000, and a chapter of 13 men with no alumni was born in
the heart of two large Deke alumni groups with no active chapters.
More Psi Phi alumni
involvement, and Delta Pi alumni leadership, will firmly
establish the chapter at I.U...with a promise of re-establishing Psi Phi
at DePauw and Delta Pi at the University of Illinois.
What
is the three-chapter consortium?
DELTA PI
CHAPTER TURNS 100 IN 2004 - 05
On Nov. 17,
1904, Delta Pi of DKE was founded at the University of Illinois,
beginning a long and active Deke tradition. The thirteenth
fraternity on the Illinois campus, the chapter faltered in the
mid-1960s, but the lion roared again in
1969. In 1986, the active chapter went silent again, but Delta
Pi spirit, and hundreds of alumni, are alive, well, and wanting to
return an active brotherhood to Champaign-Urbana, one that
will continue the flow of men to the alumni rolls and continue the now
100-year-old tradition of DKE at the University. Delta Pi involvement with the chapter at Indiana will
build the foundation upon which the next house at Champaign-Urbana will
be built. Got Leadership? Click here to

THE
"VALUE ADD" OF DEKE BROTHERHOOD
What
makes the Deke experience different? Alumni involvement and
leadership experiences. 2004 Delta Psi President Brendan McPherson
’05, who led the I.U. chapter through the difficult adjustment of living
under one roof for the first time last fall, learned lessons he will
carry for the rest of his life. To further the leadership lessons
for his top officers, Brendan kicked off the school year by hosting an
Executive Board leadership retreat at I.U.’s Bradford Woods Ropes
Course. The eight-man board
spent two days, led by a trained facilitator, participating in exercises
teaching leadership, communication, trust, and teamwork. The
Gordon Sayers '33 Scholarship Fund in the Ruby Cup Foundation underwrote
the experience, along with additional gifts from Psi Phi alumni Bob
Rennie '42, Jim Little '48, Herb Kern '51, and John Schlotz '51. Read

KEVIN
CANE '05 ELECTED BROTHER BETA
Kevin Cane was
elected president of Delta Psi of DKE three days after the
five-year-old chapter initiated 14 new
brothers, its largest pledge
class. Kevin will
serve until May, and joining him in leading the chapter is a full
slate of officers. The Munster, Indiana, native
follows Brendan McPherson, president during the fall
semester. Brendan will graduate in May with degrees in
finance/real estate and entrepreneurship and will matriculate at the
University of Kansas Law School this fall. An Honors College
student who was named the Arthur R. Metz Scholar by Indiana University
for his academic achievement, Kevin carries a 3.7 GPA on a 4.0
scale. He will graduate in May with honors and a B.S. degree in
biology. He plans to attend medical school in Fall, 2006. Read

TWO
OF TWENTY IFC AWARDS GO TO DELTA PSI

earned two top honors during Indiana University’s annual Greek Awards
ceremony. The chapter was

APRIL
23, 2005: A 100-HOUR DAY
Delta Psi's
alumni, philanthropy, and community service chairs Nick Plebanski '07,
Steve Schultz '08, and Jason Apple '08, will work with six
Bloomington Deke alumni to organize the "100-hour Day."
Involving 100 man hours, the community service project will
see all Dekes living in Indiana invited to Bloomington for a four-hour
active/alumni project that not only will serve charitable organizations
in Monroe County, but also serve as a time for Indiana alumni to get to
know the quality men of Delta Psi. The 100 hours will end in early
afternoon, with a cook-out at the chapter house. Plan to spend
Saturday, April 23 in Bloomington with all the brothers, old and young,
helping worthwhile organizations, and demonstrating that Deke is a
fraternity that takes "useful citizenship" to heart.
Your written invitation is coming soon.
DEKE
INTERNATIONAL LAUNCHES
"A PROGRAM FOR THE 21st CENTURY"
Deke
International Chapter Consultant Dennis Gerber visited Bloomington an
unprecedented three times this year. Most recently, he
worked with the chapter in refining recruitment techniques for two weeks in
January--just before
spring rush. Alumni involvement is key to a chapter's success,
and Deke
International, Dennis' good work, Chapter Advisor Bryan Gambrel '92, and
Resident Director Adam Shepard DY
’04, have been constant supports for Delta Psi.
Please support
Deke International in appreciation of its
extensive and generous support here locally. Deke International's
"Program for the 21st Century" calls
for increasing dues paying membership to
10,000; involving alumni as never before--and Psi Phi and Delta Pi alumni have
embraced that in their support of Delta Psi; strengthening chapters and alumni
organizations; and increasing staff size to emphasize chapter activity, pledge
training, ritual observance, and solid recruitment.
Our three-chapter consortium is all the stronger as part of a well-built
international consortium. Deke International annual dues is
$75. Add strength to this brotherhood and
